Herndon Fine Art offers authenticated Malcolm Liepke fine art, including rare hand-signed original oil paintings on Belgian linen, Voirin press lithographs, and figurative graphics.
Universally celebrated for his luscious impasto, instinctual gray-green flesh tones, and intimate, sensual portraiture, Minneapolis-born master Malcolm T. Liepke (b. 1953) is a preeminent titan of modern American figurative realism. Enrolling at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena before departing to reject modern conceptualism, Liepke moved to New York to study classical draftsmanship directly from Old Masters—absorbing the wet-on-wet bravura of John Singer Sargent, Diego Velázquez, Edgar Degas, and Édouard Vuillard. Building an award-winning career as a commercial illustrator for Time, Forbes, and Fortune, Liepke abandoned commercial constraints in the mid-1980s to commit fully to fine art. Coining his aesthetic "Figurative Humanism," Liepke paints directly into wet oil layers (alla prima) on Claessens Belgian linen, capturing candid moments of urban nightlife, studio models, and contemplative repose without waiting for underlying paint to dry. Herndon Fine Art specializes in acquiring and evaluating original Malcolm Liepke oil paintings, hand-signed limited edition serigraphs, and hand-drawn lithographs. Every piece in our gallery inventory undergoes thorough condition inspection to verify oil impasto stability, paper margins, and signature authenticity.
